Question 1186193: The recently made suspension bridge cables in New Bataan Hydro plant
are in the shape of a parabola. The distance between two towers supporting
the cable are 800 feet apart and the height is 200 feet. If the vertical support
cables are at 100 feet intervals along the level roadway, what are the lengths
of these vertical cables? Also write the standard form equation of an elipse.

Answer by ikleyn(52802)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

In this post,  one vitally important parameter is missed.

It is the distance between the lowest point of the cable and the roadway level.

Without it,  the problem can not be solved.

Also,  do not try to pack more than one problem/question in one post.

It  ALWAYS  works against your better interests.

By the way,  you request to write the standard form equation of an ellipse,
and I totally do not understand,  how this part is logically connected with the main body of the post ?

Is it a mistake,  or  WHAT ?

It is much better to make/ (to prepare) one problem correctly,  than two incorrectly.
