Question 1184729: The orbit of the earth around the sun is elliptical in shape with the sun at one
focus and semimajor axis of length 185.8 million miles. If the distance of the sun from the center of the orbit is 1.58 million miles, find
a. the greatest distance from the sun to Earth, and
b. the least distance from the sun to Earth.

The orbit of the earth around the sun is elliptical in shape with the sun at one focus and semimajor axis
of length 185.8 million miles. If the distance of the sun from the center of the orbit is 1.58 million miles, find
a. the greatest distance from the sun to Earth, and
b. the least distance from the sun to Earth.

Excuse me,
if you look into Wikipedia article, related to the Earth orbit around the Sun,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth%27s_orbit
you will find there TOTALLY DIFFERENT number for the semimajor axis length of 92.96×10^6 miles (half of your value (!) ).
I can not participate in the solution of the problem, which incorrectly treats the world's constants.
( Had the Earth be two times farther from the Sun, than it really is, it would obtain
only smart part of the heat energy from the Sun (probably, only one fourth of the current energy flow),
everything would be covered by ice, and the life, as we know it, would be hardly possible in our beautiful world . . . ).
