Question 923028: A baseball diamond is in the shape of a square, 90 feet on the side. What is the direct distance from home to second base
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a^2 + b^2 = c^2 ... pythagorean theorem
90^2 + 90^2 = c^2
2*90^2 = c^2
c^2 = 2*90^2
c = sqrt(2*90^2)
c = sqrt(2)*sqrt(90^2)
c = sqrt(2)*90
c = 90*sqrt(2)
The exact distance is 90*sqrt(2)
90*sqrt(2) approximates to 127.27922
