Question 86755: Could someone please explain to me how to find an answer using a calculator to solve this problem?
Use a calculator to approximte 77^ to the nearest hundredth. My answer choices are 8.62, 8.77, 9.00, and 9.12. When I try to figure this out on a calculator I do not even get close to any of these answers. I do not know how to use a scientific calculator. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Could someone please explain to me how to find an answer using a calculator
to solve this problem?
Use a calculator to approximte to the nearest hundredth.
My answer choices are 8.62, 8.77, 9.00, and 9.12. When I try to figure
this out on a calculator I do not even get close to any of these answers.
I do not know how to use a scientific calculator. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

If you can't find the square root key, then just do some multiplying:

Multiply 8.62 times 8.62. You get 74.3044.
Multiply 8.77 times 8.77. You get 76.9129
Multiply 9.00 times 9.00. You get 81
Multiply 9.12 times 9.12. You get 83.1744.

Which one of those comes closest to 77? Of course it's 76.9129,
so the only feasible choice is 8.77.
