A 16 foot pole is supported by two wires that extend from the top of the pole to points that are each 8 feet from the base of the pole. Find the total length of two wires.

Answer by waynest(281)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
c^2 = a^2 + b^2
c = length of one wire
a = height of pole
b = distance of wire from bottom of pole
c^2 = 16^2 + 8^2
c^2 = 256 + 64
c^2 = 320
sqrtc^2 = sqrt320
c = 8sqrt5
c = 17.9
total wire:
2 x 17.9 = 35.8 feet
