: I am taking pre-algebra, but I am learning the Pythagorean theorem. The question I have is there is a right tringle with 55 ft. on one side and 30 ft. on the other I am trying to find the hypotenuse. I have tried by multiplying 55 times 55 and 30 bye 30 to get an answer and square but I cant seem to get it right. This question is from textbook Basic Concepts

The Pythagorean theorem states, algebraically:
Where c is the length of the hypotenuse of the right triangle and a & b are the lengths of the other two sides.
In your problem, a = 55 ft., b = 30 ft, and you want to find c, the length of the hypotenuse, c.


Now take the square root of both sides.
