Suppose an outfielder catches the ball on the third base line about 40 ft behind the third base. About how far would the outfielder have to throw the ball to the first base?
Use Pythagoras.
The player is 130 feet from homeplate.
It's 90 ftee from home to 1st.
Find the hypotenuse of that right triangle.
h^2 = 130^ + 90^2
Solve for "h".
Cheers,
Stan H.
