a^2+b^2=c^2
a and b are the sides of the right triangle next to the right angle and c is the hypotenuse (opposite the right angle)
This for right triangles. Triangles with a right (90 degree angle)
The theorem states that the legs(the sides of the triangle next to the 90 degree angle) squared and added together equals the square of the side opposite the right angle(also known as the hypotenuse)
So if you know any two sides you can find the third side. (as long as you know which one is the hypotenuse
So if we have sides 3 and 4 we can find the hypotenuse.
3^2+4^2=c^2
9+16=25
25=c^2
c=5
