The legs of the trangle are x and x-7. The hypotenuse is x+1.

Why did you stop there?
^2 = (x + 1)^2)
The quadratic factors, but one of the roots is too small -- if you subtract 7 to get the measure of the shorter leg, you will have a negative number. So the larger of the two roots is the length of the longer leg.
