"A pole is slid into a closet so that one end touches the back upper right corner of the closet and the other end touches the front lower left corner of the closet. What is the tallest pole that can fit in this closet, which is 3ft wide, 4ft deep, and 7 ft high. Round your answer to the nearest tenth of a foot."
By the way this is not graded but he said he could make it a graded assignment.

This will use Pythagorean Theorem Formula in THREE dimensions, instead of just two dimensions.

You already know, h for hypotenuse and dimensions named x and y, . In your example, you have one additional dimension, which you can call whatever you want; maybe like, z. You can then say, z is for height, and .
