In a right angle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs. c^2=a^2+b^2

The hypotenuse is the line opposite the right angle. It is always the longest of the 3 lines in a right triangle.
If you add up the squares of each of the other 2 lines they will add up EXACTLY to the square of the hypotenuse.
That's nice, but usually you have to find out what the unsquared hypotenuse is.
To do that we need to get the square root of the hypotenuse.
Let's try one out.

one side is 5 and the other is 12 what is the hypotenuse (c)?
What is the square root of 169? A. 13 because 13*13=169
So, c=13
The hypotenuse is 13
.
