Question 12328: Where did I go wrong? Please giveme the corrected answer.
Given m=n
Multiply m2=mn
Subtract m2-n2=mn-n2
Factor/Multiplication (m-n)(m+n)=mn-n2
Factor/Multiplication (m-n)(m+n)=(m-n)n
Divide m+n=n
Subsitute n+n=n
Addition 2n=n
Divide 2=1
Answer by kusha(21) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
m=n is one equation and in order to solve two variables we need at least 2 equations. So all your attempts at trying to get a set of solutions mathematically will fail. You can try to get some solutions by hit and trial method or in other words guessing.
Moreover in algebra, remember that performing same operation on both sides of an equation will yield an equivalent equation, not necessarily an equal one. so when ever we solve for values, we need to substitute the values in original set of eqn.s to chq if our answer is right. (if not clear, you may ask for an illustration for this)
