Call the smaller integer x. The next consecutive integer must be one more than x, or x + 1.
The sum of the two equals seven, or
x + (x + 1) = 7
2x + 1 = 7
2x = 6
x = 3
x + 1 = 4
Thus the numbers are 3 and 4.
