Question 99175: Find two consecutive integers whose product is 156?

Answer by ptaylor(2198)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=the first integer
Then x+1=the second
Now we are told that:
x(x+1)=156 get rid of parens
x^2+x=156 subtract 156 from both sides
x^2+x-156=156-156 or
x^2+x-156=0 quadratic in standard form and it can be factored:
x+13)(x-12)=0
x=-13------------first integer
x+1=-13+1=-12-----------other integer
and
x=12-------------------first integer
x+1=12+1=13-----------other integer

Hope this helps----ptaylor
