8.2 + (1.6X)=X +20.7 subtract 8.2 from each side
8.2+1.6X-8.2=X+20.7-8.2
1.6X=X+12.5 Subtract X from each side
1.6X-X=X+12.5-X
0.6X=12.5 Divide each side by 0.6
0.6X/0.6=12.5/0.6
X=20.83 ANSWER The number is 20.83
