Hello, I have a homework about inequalities:word problems.
The question states:
"For each of the following, a) choose a variable to represent the number indicated in parentheses. b) use the variable to write an inequality based on the given information, do not solve."
The exercise:
16. The greater of two consecutive even integers is at most 50 less than five times (the smaller).
Thank you, and please explain to me how it is solved, that would help me a lot.
{P.S. any help would be greatly appreciated.}
Let the smaller integer be S
Being even integers, the greater, or larger is: S + 2
"At most" means THE MOST, so the value CANNOT be GREATER than 50 less than 5 times the smaller integer, S
Therefore,
Now solve for S to determine the smaller integer, and add 2 to the smaller integer to determine the larger
Then do a check!!
If you need a complete and detailed solution, let me know!!
