The difference of the squares of two positive consecutive even integers is 44. Find the integers.
Two even integers: n, (n+2)
:
(n+2)^2 - n^2 = 44
FOIL
n^2 + 4n + 4 - n^2 = 44
combine like terms
4n = 44 - 4
n = 40/4
n = 10 and 12 are the integers
:
144 - 100 = 44
