Question 829384: One number is 10 less than another number. If their sum is 60, what are the numbers?

Let one number = x; we know from the question that the other number = x-10
We know that added together, they are 60.
x + (x-10) = 60
Add the x's:
2x -10 = 60
Add 10 to each side:
2x = 60 + 10 (or 70)
Divide each side by 2
x = 70/2 (or 35)
Let's put it back into the original equation to see if it works.
35 (the first number) + (35-10) (the second number) = 60
35 + 25 does indeed equal 60.
