Find two consecutive positive even integers
x, (x+2)
:
such that the sum of 5 times the larger and half the smaller integer is 22 more than the sum of the integers.
5(x+2) + .5(x) = x + (x+2) + 22
5x + 10 + .5x = 2x + 24
5.5x - 2x = 24 - 10
3.5x = 14
x =
x = 4
then
4 and 6 are the two integers
:
:
See if that works out
5(6) + 2 = 4 + 6 + 22
:
What is the smaller integer? 4
