When solving the sum of 3 odd consecutive integers = -27, why do you have to multiply the x by 2? For example, (2x+1) + (2x+3) + (2x+5)
-----------------
You don't.
-27/3 = -9, the average which is the middle number
--> -11, -9 & -7
-----------------
2x+1, etc, gives an odd number, that's what that's about, but you can solve the problem without it.
