Hi,
the sum of two number is 3
Let x and (3-x) represent the numbers
Question states***
x^2 + (3-x)^2 = 12
x^2 + 9 -6x + x^2 = 12
2x^2 - 6x -3 = 0

product of these numbers:

(36 -60)/16 = -24/16 = -3/2
