a car radiator has a capacity of 16 quarts and is filled with a 25% anifreeze solution, how much must be drained off and replaced with pure antifreeaze to obtain a 40 % antifreeze solution
-----
Equation:
alcohol - alcohol + alcohol = alcohol
-----
0.25*16 - 0.25x + 1.00x = 0.40*16
-----
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
25*16 - 25x + 100x = 40*16
---
75x = 15*16
---
x = (1/5)*16
x = 3 1/5 quarts (amt. that must be removed and replaced)
