Let the numbers be x,x+2,x+4,x+6,x+8
x+x+8 = 3(x+6)-1
2x+8=3x+18-1
2x+8 = 3x+17
add -2x to both sides
2x-2x+8 = 3x+17-2x
8=x+17
add -17 to both sides
8-17=x+17-17
-9=x
...
-9, -7,-5,-3,-1
