Question 341218: I am having difficulty with this word problem. I need three consecutive even integers. If twice the first integer added to the third is 268,222, find each zip code. Can someone help me with the equation?

Let the first number be x.
Since they are consecutive even integers, the next one is two more than x, or x + 2.
The next would be x + 4.
So if we add twice the first to the third we get
2x + (x + 4) = 268222
3x + 4 = 268222
3x = 268218
x = 89406
x + 2 = 89408
x + 4 = 89410
