"the area of the room is 228 square feet" ___ L * W = 228

substituting ___ (W + 7) * W = 228 ___ W^2 + 7W - 228 = 0

factoring ___ (W - 12) (W + 19) = 0

W = 12

W = 19 not realistic

substituting ___ L = 7 + 12 ___ L = 19
