4n = n+1+ 12
3n = 13
n = 13/3
---------
3 times more is not 3 times as much.
If you think it is, then 1 time more has to be the same as 1x, so it isn't more.
eg, 1 time more than 5 is 10. 2 times more than 5 is 15.
It's the difference between English and Gibberish.
