Question 244803: The sum of two positive integers is 1,287. If the larger number is 9 And 1/2 more then 2 And 1/2 times the smaller number, then what are the two numbers?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y=1287
If I am reading your problem correctly
x=9.5+ 2.5y
9.5+ 2.5y+y=1287
9.5+3.5y=1287
3.5y=1287-9.5
3.5y=1277.5
multiply by 10
35y=12775
y=365
x=922
