your equation is 9x + 7y = -1000

that would be the standard form for the equation of a straight line.

the standard form for the equation of a straight line is ax + by = c where:

b is the coefficient of the y term
c is the constant

it's a linear equation because none of the terms have a coefficient greater than 1.

the general form of the slope intercept form of this equation is y = mx + b where:

m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

to convert from standard form to slope-intercept form, solve for y to get:

9x + 7y = -1000 is the original equation.
subtract 9x from both sides to get:
7y = -9x - 1000
divide both sides of the equation by 7 to get:
y = (-9/7)*x - (1000/7)

the slope is (-9/7) which replaces m from the general form.

the y-intercept is - (1000/7) which replaces b from the general form.
