You are going to spend a LONG time looking for the answer to this one. The sum of ANY two even integers, consecutive or otherwise, is itself even, but 117 is odd. If two integers have a sum of 117, then one of them must be even and the other odd.

Find two consecutive even integers whose sum is 117.

Step 1. Let n be the first even integer.

Step 2. Let n+2 be the next consecutive even integer.

Step 3. Then n+n+2=117 since two consecutive even integers whose sum is 117.

Step 4. Solving yields the following steps.

Divide by 2 to both sides of the equation

but this is not an even integer.

Step 5. ANSWER: There is no solution to this problem. Note the addition of two even integers will not yield an odd integer.
