a caterpillar and a snail are 300 feet apart. the caterpillar crawls 4 times as fast as the snail. if the two creatures come face to face in 5 hours, how fast is each moving?
------------
The sum of their speeds is 300/5 = 60 feet/hour
C + S = 60
C = 4S
-----
Sub for C into 1st eqn
4S + S = 60
S = 12 ft/hr
C = 48 ft/hr
