``an elderly wildbeest scents a lion and starts running away at 40mph. .02hours later (about 1 minute ) the lion starts running after the wildbeest at 50mph. presuming the lion and the wildbeest started from the same spot, how long will it take the lion to catch the wildbeest?
---------------
In 0.02 hrs at 40 mph the wildebeest goes 0.8 miles, so he's that far from the lion.
The lion gains on him at 10 mph (50-40).
0.8/10 = 0.08 hours = 4.8 minutes.
-----------
This is fiction. A lion wouldn't wait 0.02 hours, then start chasing something.
Lions don't run 50 mph, and can't run over about 20 mph for 4.8 minutes.
How elderly is this wildebeest than can run 40 mph for 5 minutes?
