They move in opposite direction --- therefore, their separating speed is the sum  55 + 40 = 95 km/h.


The distance of 38 km is    of 95 kilometers.


Therefore, the time spent to get separated at 38 kilometers is    of an hour,  which is 24 minutes.    ANSWER
