Question 1030413: the sum of what integer and 181 is equal to -236
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the sum of what integer and 181 is equal to -236
n + 181 = -236
subtract 181 from both sides
:
n = -236 - 181
Remember the law of signs, when the signs are the same, you add them
n = -238 - 181 = -417
then going back to the original equation n = -417, we have
-417 + 181 = -236,
(the signs are different so we substract, the solution takes the sign of the larger number)
