the car numbers of two racecar drivers are consecutive odd integers whose sum is 88. if one drivers number is the smaller, find the numbers of each car.
:
Let x = no. of one race car
numbers are consecutive odd, therefore:
(x+2) = no. of the other
:
Their sum is 88, therefore
x + (x+2) = 88
2x + 2 = 88
2x = 88 - 2
2x = 86
x = 86/2
x = 43 is the number of one, then obviously, 45 is the other
