Question 977751: How to calculate P-value manually?
My assignment requires a manual calculation, however my textbook suggests and teachs steps for calculating P-values with excel software.
eg. Test statistic: 0.5147
P-value from excel: 0.3038
My "manual method" is to look for the value of 0.5147 from statistical table normal curve area, look for 0.5 on the side and then 0.01 on the top to find 0.1950, then have 0.5-0.1950. Is this the right way to do the p-value "Manually"? What happens when the test statistic cannot be found on the table?
Thanks for your help.

Answer by Fombitz(32388)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
With the table as given you can only get two decimal place accuracy.
You can read a value for -0.51(0.30503) and for -0.52 (0.30153).
You can also interpolate a linear value (although the normal distribution curve is not linear).
Assume their is a straight line relationship, so find the line between (-0.51,0.30503) and (-0.52,0.30153)
Slope:

So then, when
