Question 944488: there are 10 boxes numbered 1 to 10 each box. there are 1000 shells each having 1 gram each in all 9 boxes but in 1 box there are 1000 shells each of having 1.1 gram but not in the same order that is not exactly having 10th box having 1.1 gram weight shell. it may be 4th or 5th or 6th........the question is by making use of balance only once you have to pick up the number of box containing 1.1 gram shells?

Take a number of shells from each box corresponding to its number, for example take one shell from box 1, two shells from box 2 , three from box 3 and so on. Weigh all of the shells. The number of tenth grams is the number of the box. For example, if all shells weighed 1 gram, the total weight would be 55 grams. If the 5 shells from box 5 weighed 1.1 grams each, the total weight would be 55.5g, if the heavier shells were in box 8, the weight would be 55.8, so the number of tenths of a gram over 55 is the box number.
