Question 935252: There are 1000 participants in a sample, how many people are likely to have completed task within 16 minutes? Mean =24, SD = 4
In the same study the researcher is interested in a possible relationship between age in years and the length of time (in minutes) taken to complete the task
Identify the study variables and level of measurement for each
The results are presented as follows:
r= 0.7, P = 0.01
What do the r and p values represent?
What is suggested by these results?

There are 1000 participants in a sample, how many people are likely to have completed task within 16 minutes? Mean =24, SD = 4
----
z(16) = (16-24)/4 = -2
P(x <= 16) = P(z <= -2) = 0.02275
Ans:: 0.0228*1000 = 23 if rounded up

In the same study the researcher is interested in a possible relationship between age in years and the length of time (in minutes) taken to complete the task Identify the study variables and level of measurement for each
The results are presented as follows:
r= 0.7, P = 0.01
What do the r and p values represent?
Ans: r is the strength of the linear relationship between age and time
to complete the task.
p is p-value associated with testing the hypothesis
that r = 0 (no linear regression).
--------------
What is suggested by these results?
If r = 0.7 there is a relatively strong linear relation
between age and time to complete.
If p = 0.01 the hypothesis would be rejected at the alpha
level of significance if alpha is greater than 1%.
