Question 927981: A golf equipment company produces drivers that are stated to be 44 inches long. Suppose that the distribution of the actual lengths of these drivers is normal with mean 44 inches and standard deviation 0.1 inches.
You purchase a new 45-inch driver from this company. What is the probability that it is longer than 45 inches?
A. 0.68
B. 0.32
C. 0.16
D. essentially 0
Answer by 428225(90) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(45-44)/(0.1)=10
Z=10
________
Let me explain something before getting the answer.
Suppose the question was P(X>44.4)
If you do (44.4-44)/(0.1) z would = 4
Phi of (4) = 1, so that means on the axis, 44.1 would be so far to the right, everything to the left of it would almost equals 1.
_________
But because it is to the right of the mean, you have to do 1 minus that value. So 1-1=0
_________
(although phi(4) does not equal 1 exactly)
_________
So imagine what z=10 would equal, if you did 1 minus phi(10).
It would essentially = 0
