Question 924038: Each morning a waitress either walks, cycles or takes the bus to her workplace. The probability of each of these modes of transport are 50%,1/3 and 1/6 respectively. If she walks the probability that she will arrive late is 1/6. If she cycles the probability that she will arrive late is 25%. If she takes the bus the probability that she will arrive late is 1/5.
A)Calculate the probability that she arrives late for work.
B)Her boss decides to give her a trial period of 12 weeks at 5 working days per week. On how many occcasions do you think that she will be late?

Answer by ewatrrr(24785)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
p(walks) = 1/2 , p(Arriving Late) = 1/6
p(cycles) = 1/3 , p(Arriving Late) = 1/4
p(takes the bus)= 1/6 , p(Arriving Late) = 1/5
A) P(arrives late) = = 12/60 = 1/5
....
B) 60(1/5) = 12 occassions of being Late would be expected.
