Question 895687: I am having difficulty figuring how to solve a problem in prealgebra. The question asks which songs to select specific songs from the list to record the maximum time on the CD without going over 35 min and then gives a list of 10 songs with varying lengths (ie. 5 min 4 s)
Answer by josgarithmetic(39626)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Arrange a list of the songs in decreasing order based on song length. In either direction, upward or downward, find the sum of total time for each next included song; and this should give you a list of sums, from which you can compare to your maximum 35 minute total length of time requirement.

If you take songs to sum in increasing song times, you could obtain a bigger quantity of songs than if you take the songs in decreasing song times.

This seems like a strange question for pre-algebra. You selected Probability-and-Statistics to classify your question
