Question 87157: can someone help me with this thanks.
"choose any state that runs a lottery.) Describe how you would calculate the odds of winning the jackpot".
MY idea is may one over the number of entries I think i am wrong but any help would be appreciated.
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can look up the # of tickets sold using the internet.
Assume a person buys one ticket
Probability he wins = 1/# of tickets sold
Probability he loses = 1-(1/# of tickets sold)
Odds in favor of his winning = [Prob(he wins)/[Prob(he loses)] = a/b
If the result is a/b you can express the odds in favor of his winning as a:b
