Question 866322: A nutrition lab tests 60 reduced fat hit dogs. This sample produces a mean of 318 mg of sodium, and the standard deviation is 32 mg.
a) What is the standard error for the mean sodium content?
b) Find and interpret a 95 confidence interval.
c) Food labeling regulations require that any food identified as "reduced sodium" must have at least 30% less sodium than it's regular counterpart. If regular franks average 465 mg of sodium, should this brand be labeled "reduced"? Explain using your confidence interval.

Hi
mean of 318 mg of sodium, and the standard deviation is 32 mg.
n = 60
a) SE = 32/sqrt(60)= 4.1312
b) ME = 1.96(4.1312) = 8
CI: 318-8 < u < 318 + 8 (310, 336)
c) .7(465) = 325.5, Yes reduced. It is in the confidence Interval
CI z -value
90% z =1.645
92% z = 1.751
95% z = 1.96
98% z = 2.326
99% z = 2.576
