Question 860998: Please help me.
If P(A)=0.65, P(B)=0.45 and P(A and B)= 0.15, find the following probabilities. Drawing a Venn Diagram may help you.
a) P(A or B) =
b) P(not A) =
c) P(not B) =
d) P(A and (not B)) =
e) P(not(A and B)) =
For (a), I keep coming up with 1.1 by adding .65+.45, but this is not the correct answer. I also tried multiplying A with B to get .2925, but this is also incorrect. I'm also confused how to calculate the other parts. If you can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.

If P(A)=0.65, P(B)=0.45 and P(A and B)= 0.15, find the following probabilities. Drawing a Venn Diagram may help you.
Formula: P(A or B) = P(A)+P(B)-P(A and B)
----------------------------------------
a) P(A or B) = 0.65+0.45-0.15 = 0.95
------------------------------------------
b) P(not A) = 1 - 0.65 = 0.35
-------
c) P(not B) = 1 - 0.45 = 0.55
-------------------------------
d) P(A and (not B))
---------------------------------
e) P(not(A and B)) = 1 - 0.95 = 0.05
----------------------------------------
