Question 859072: At a local library, the probability that someone is reading the current issue of Sports Illustrated is .5, the probability that someone is reading Time is .4, and these two events are independent of each other. What is the probability that:
1. Both of the magazines are being read?
2. Neither of the two is being read?

Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1)
The probability that both are read is .5*.4=0.2
The probability that only SI is read is .5-.2=0.3
The probability that only Time is read is .4-.2=0.2
.
2)The probability that both are not read is 1-(.2+.3+.2)=0.3
.
Use a Venn diagram to understand this.
