Question 854284: Hi. Can someone help me with some reassurance on this problem.
The students of a certain college were asked to choose which of six movie genres was their favorite. If there are 15,500 students at this college how many chose action or comedy given the following distributions of the students answers, Action 5%, Historical 15%, Other 29%, Drama 21%, Comedy 20%, and Horror 10%.
Here's what I'm thinking...
P(action or comedy)= P(action)+P(comedy)=5%+20% = 25%
Then 25% of 15,500 would be a total of 3875? That answer just feels off for some reason... Please help.

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
15500 is almost 16000
1/4 of 16000 is 4000 so your answer is in the right range.
It is correct.
