Question 842967: In a bag of mixed candies are 15 krunchers, 13 caramels, and twelve dark chocolates, each in indistinguishable wrappers. Determine the probability that you select three krunchers in a row from the bag, assuming that no replacement occurs after each random selection.
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the probability will be equal to:

15/40 * 14/39 * 13/38

the probability is therefore equal to .0460526316 which can be rounded to 4 decimal places to be equal to .0461 which is equivalent to 4.61%.

on the first draw, there are 15 krunchers out of a total of 40 candies.

on the second draw, there are 14 krunchers left in the bag out of 39 candies left in the bag.

on the third draw, there are 13 krunchers left in the bag out of the 38 candies left in the bag.

the joint probability formula assumes that the krunchers were selected each time so there is one less kruncher in the bag the next time around and there are one less total number of candies in the bag the next time around as well.
