i did the following using this formula
please note that E stands for Greek summation symbol since i don't have it on my keys
s^2=Ex^2-(Ex)^2/n-1
Ex^2 is (1)^2+ (5)^2+(5)^2+(7)^2+(9)^2+(10)^2+(12)^2+(13)^2=594
(Ex)^2 is (1+5+5+7+9+10+12+13)^2/8 which equals 480.5
following the formula i took 594-480.5/8-1 since this is a sample my variance
was 2.32 and then square root that and get 1.52
the answer is 4.030 so i know i am off and i redid it several times
