A single card is chosen at random from a standard 52-card deck. Find the odds against its being a
1.heart,
Prob(picking a heart)=1/4; Prob(not picking a heart)=3/4
Odds against its being a heart = (3/4)/(1/4)= 3 to 1
-------------------------------
2.a red queen,
Prob(getting red queen)=2/52; Prob(not getting red queen)=50/52
Odds against getting red queen = (50/52)/(2/52) = 50 to 2 or 25 to 1
-------------------------
3. a king or a black face card.
Prob(getting king or black face card)=[4+6-2]/52=8/52=4/26
Prob(not getting king or black face card)=22/26
Odd against getting king or black face card = 22/4= 11 to 2

In general Odds against A = [P(not A)]/P(A)]
