A bag contains marbles. Half are blue, a third are green, and 6 are red. How many are green?
Let x = total number of marbles
then
(1/2)x + (1/3)x + 6 = x
3x + 2x + 36 = 6x
5x + 36 = 6x
36 = x
.
green then is:
(1/3)36 = 36/3 = 12 (answer)
