Question 616342: I really hope that I have the right place for my questions... if I don't I am really sorry. The name of my lesson is Descriptive statistics. my question is if I have the terms 14, 6, 17 ,15,12, 22, and 19 what term do I add to this sequence to have a mean of 17? I have tried the equation and I got 36 but that doesn't give me the mean 17. What equation do I use?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Mean = (Sum of the values)/(Number of values)
17 = (14+6+17+15+12+22+19+x)/8
17 = (105+x)/8
17*8 = 105+x
136 = 105+x
136-105 = x
31 = x
x = 31
So you need to add 31 to the list.
